Introducing The Warehouse Art Chix:

  • Cari Shell
My name is Cari Shell, I am the newest addition to the Warehouseartchix. I have just recently returned back to Texas from 5 years in New Mexico. (Hello to all my friends back there!!!-miss you bunches!) In New Mexico I was blessed to work with special needs children and fell in love, what a great experience to love and teach those children. I am the mother of three girls and grandmother to two (yes I am young to be a grandmother). My background is in Faux finishing, having previously worked for Sandra and her design Business. I have always had a love for art and am a self trained artist. Now I am back working for Sandra and am loving every minute of it! It brings back all of my inspiration and creativity to be around these chix! Keep watching for all our fun and exciting projects to come!
  • Debra Johnson
I am a wife and a mother to an 11 year old daughter, and an infant son. * NO...I'm not young...I've just S P R E A D out my child bearing years!:) I am an ART NUT by day and a 'wanna be' mom and wife by night and weekends. I say 'wanna be' due the fact that I am always looking for ways to improve in this department and have been very fortunate by being blessed with some fantastic friends who are terrific mothers that inspire me forward. I thought I had it all together until this new 'cutie patootie' came into my life...and now ANYTHING GOES for getting life, family, and art all into a 24 hour period. 4:00 pm........is as good as 4:00 am ~ the lights are always ON at my house. My art background is in ....simply being poor most of my life:) * Hehe ~ One MAKES... what they can't buy!! *And.... you learn to see beauty in OTHER things.... OTHER than what's in the store:) I am very blessed to be able to stay home and create an income with my weird 'what-nots'. A few years ago I had a cottage art studio called The Little Yellow House. We held many art classes, and rented the house out for events. It was filled... floor to ceiling.... with bizarre and wonderful creations!! * My favorite DECOR was the laughter of friends!! So now each week I join the other two Warehouse Artchix in the warehouse to create fun and colorful WHIMSIES together!! I LOVE this time with these 2 free, fabulous spirits!

My back ground is in fine art and I spent my college years traveling and studying in Europe, an incredible experience that I hope to return to someday! I am blessed to be able to create everyday either in my design work or in my Studio. Each week I join the other two Warehouse Artchix in the warehouse to create together...feeding of the creative energy of some fabulous, fun and funky females that I so thankfully call dear friends! We hope you enjoy our art, mainstream it is not, it is just for fun and meant to make your heart soar!!!

ART DOLL RouNd RObiN BeGiNs!!

Art_dolls3 It's Friday night at the warehouse and the chix have gathered to start a new adventure.

We have a few guest joining us for this...Cari Shell is participating along with our Blog Buddy Kecia, from Lemoncholy. We are having an ART DOLL ROUND ROBIN!!!  We started with wooden CABS for faces (some were from Lani Kent) and others we made so each person will have a similiar face size. Then each artist was to add the "body" to it.  To be interpreted by each person.   This group picture contains some of the dolls, Kecia is in another state, so we will take another group pic when hers arrives.  Now each doll is going to travel to one of the group members to be embellished and added to!! Can not wait to see how they turn out!!  We will keep you informed with pics as they transform into awesome creations!!! We are loving  the process and the fact that Kecia is joining us on this. If any of you have ever done a Round Robin, we would love to hear from you and know how you did it and how it turned out....so PLEEEEZE comment so we can learn from each of you and share in the creative process!!  Here are a few more pics of the "dolls" by the "chix"!!  ...the pink cupcake is what is left of our treats..we enjoyed pink cupcakes and pink fingerprint cookies!!! Just to set the mood!Art_dolls6

Blue, Birds, and Happiness!

Blue, and I mean that lovely shade of blue...that aqua/turquoise shade that just refreshes anything it is on. And then there are birds, you know the Victorian images of birds, swooping with wings out so gracefully.  Art_pics_and_jobs18

These are the things that bring me happiness today! I have combined these three things to make some new art treasures! First I made a 2x2 square bevel with a bird collage tucked into it and then I soldered the edge and added a bird's egg blue bead to dangle from it and then to top it off I added a metal bird with a branch in it's beak and tied it all up with some yummy silk ribbon in that fabulous color ...Take a peek:

Dcp_1653 Dcp_1645 Beveled glass is hard to photograph

...especially if you are not a good photographer anyway...I always like to blame it on the camera...darn camera!!

The entire piece is 8" long and 3.5 inches wide at the widest part. Would make a lovely ornament, or just to hang on the wall. If you live by the same theory I do that "more is more" it could even be hung from a chain and worn as jewelry!!. The back side has a little nest of baby birdies nestled in roses.

and..here is another shot of the front...is it any better?Dcp_1654_2 Dcp_1652

NOW...FOR THE TRUE EXPERIMENTAL PIECE!...

Dcp_1655

I took a little collage mixed media piece and tucked it under a  pair of microscope slides and then soldered them together...then I made a branch out of filigree wire and soldered over it, gave it an earth color wash that turned out to look more copper in color than brown...then I attached a jump ring with an assortment of glass and silver goodies to dangle. Dcp_1659

Then I made a nest out of  golden German angle hair and nestled two shiny silvery blue eggs into it...tied it all up with some of that yummy colored ribbon and there you have it...a truly original pendant to wear or decorate with!!  Check the Etsy out later today to find out more about these two and a very sweet pendant with a vintage praying child in it!  Well, I am off to work...painting a jungle on a clients nursery wall today....just wanted to share some blue, birds and some happiness with you!!! Have a beautiful day and don't forget to check the Etsy shop!! --till the next time-Sandra

The PAINTbrushes are flying at the WAREHOUSE *~*~*

HOORAY! dEBRA has joined in on the fun!!!~~~two chix on the blog and one still to come!  Nancy ...wear(hehe) are you chix?  I used the word wear because Nancy is definitely our clotheshorse of the bunch!  Actually, I guess Deb is quite the fashion statement too!  I on the other hand love to don jeans, t-shirt or workshirt for my creating...since I am messy and totally immerse myself in the process...usually wearing as much paint as I have on the canvas...and I usually end up with my hands in the paint, so much more fun that way!! Debra has this adorable vintage (almost I LOVE LUCYisH)  apron that she wears to paint in...I must snap a picture of her in it...too cute and you can get one too at SASSYs a local creative shop  (if you are a local).  Our wonderfully hip, cute and sassy girl , Tomi Cheeks works there, so go see her and all the wonderful goodies that they have.

Back to the title of this little blog, I have been painting like a fiend this week, so much creative energy flowing through these veins. I think starting the blog and etsy got the adrenaline pumping!!!  The best part of my day job...lots of best parts...is that I get to know my clients and share in their lives and in the creation of their homes. I am blessed with the most fab people to work with, hearts of gold!!!  Anyway, I have noticed lately that there has been lots of change in all their lives .  Now I am not singling anyone in particular out, it just seems that many have been going through transitions like changing jobs, divorce, moving to new homes, having kiddos leave for college, dealing with aging parents etc...so just thinking about all those things made me think about how many times in life we get or are forced to have new beginnings!  So I began work this week on a new canvas that has the words"New Beginnings" in it and "Moments Pass".Warehouseartchix_111  It all started with a collaged piece combining images and words, then I painted on some scrolly swirls and then layered embossed paper that I rubbed with copper and gold paint and then antiqued...Warehouseartchix_115 giving it the look of aged tooled leather. Then I collaged on the vintage violin sheet music and added the metal finishing touches. Warehouseartchix_116   I thought of so many things as I worked...leather is tough and resilient, yet soft and supple, like we have to learn to be to handle change in our lives, and the sweet baby made me think of starting over, in a new and different place in life.  Moments in our life pass and some are the very last of those moments...many times we are so aware of this, as when our children progress from crawling to walking, or loose their babyteeth. Those things only happen once on our lifetime. Then there are Warehouseartchix_118 those moments that pass, like time in a familiar place or sharing things with special people in our lives, sometimes we don't realize that those moments are passing away, never to return.  But with each change in life, God gives us the opportunity for a New Beginning.  He gives us a new day to wake up to and start fresh with  and the music of the melody of life begins to play once more in our hearts.  This piece is for all those who have faced change in life, face change still to come ...or have made New Beginnings.

This canvas will be listed on our Etsy store so it can find a home with someone that understands it's special meaning!!! Whoever said "ART IMITATES LIFE" hit the nail on the head!!!!                          till next time-Sandra

Stepping into the unknown...blogging!

You know they say there is a first time for everything.  Well this is a first in many first for the Warehouse Artchix!  Our first post on our first blogsite...the Etsy Store is nextWarehouse Artchix is comprised of three female artist that share a love for creating and a passion for trying new things!  There are three chix in all...Sandra, Nancy and Debbie.  We all have our area of artistic expertise, Nancy Kirkpatrick is our expert fashionista. She is always in the know on what is stylish and new in clothing and accessories and will be creating some fun and funky things for those of you who love to wear your art!  Debbie Johnson is a mixed media artist that creates vivid images and dramatic paintings.  Some of her favorite images are faces, figures and crosses. Sandra Feazel is an Interior Designer by day and an artist after hours. She loves to create in a variety of mediums and has a whimsical style.  Together we are the Warehouse Artchix

We started as a group of friends, kindred spirits with a shared passion for creating.  Our first gathering was at the warehouse of Sandra's Design Firm. We sat up folding tables, unloaded the art supplies, turned on the good music...you know the kind, some latin, some jazz, some contemporary Christian, some old stuff...anything with a beat that you could paint to.  We had each started experimenting on our own with mixed media and altered art. We found it so appealing because it was fast and spontaneous.  There was no need for perfectionism, just have fun and experiment!  Nancy made the comment the other day that you can never look at anything the same once you start doing altered art!  How true! Well this blogsite is about to start the chronicles of our gatherings and our adventures together as creative souls.  We will all three be posting on the blog, so we will have to devise a way to let you know who is blogging each time...something to decide on our next friday night at the warehouse.     -post by Sandra (that works!)

On this, the first of our blogs, I would love to thank Susan Tuttle for designing our creative blog banner!  She is creative and a sweetheart to work with. She made the whole process, painless, fun, exciting and she was even very patient with my questions about the whole experience of blogging and designing for the blog!!  Thank you Susan from the bottom of our artistic hearts!!  You can see more of Susans blogsite designs on her website. Just click on her logo on the sidebar to the left of the screen.
