Introducing The Warehouse Art Chix:

  • Cari Shell
My name is Cari Shell, I am the newest addition to the Warehouseartchix. I have just recently returned back to Texas from 5 years in New Mexico. (Hello to all my friends back there!!!-miss you bunches!) In New Mexico I was blessed to work with special needs children and fell in love, what a great experience to love and teach those children. I am the mother of three girls and grandmother to two (yes I am young to be a grandmother). My background is in Faux finishing, having previously worked for Sandra and her design Business. I have always had a love for art and am a self trained artist. Now I am back working for Sandra and am loving every minute of it! It brings back all of my inspiration and creativity to be around these chix! Keep watching for all our fun and exciting projects to come!
  • Debra Johnson
I am a wife and a mother to an 11 year old daughter, and an infant son. * NO...I'm not young...I've just S P R E A D out my child bearing years!:) I am an ART NUT by day and a 'wanna be' mom and wife by night and weekends. I say 'wanna be' due the fact that I am always looking for ways to improve in this department and have been very fortunate by being blessed with some fantastic friends who are terrific mothers that inspire me forward. I thought I had it all together until this new 'cutie patootie' came into my life...and now ANYTHING GOES for getting life, family, and art all into a 24 hour period. 4:00 pm........is as good as 4:00 am ~ the lights are always ON at my house. My art background is in ....simply being poor most of my life:) * Hehe ~ One MAKES... what they can't buy!! *And.... you learn to see beauty in OTHER things.... OTHER than what's in the store:) I am very blessed to be able to stay home and create an income with my weird 'what-nots'. A few years ago I had a cottage art studio called The Little Yellow House. We held many art classes, and rented the house out for events. It was filled... floor to ceiling.... with bizarre and wonderful creations!! * My favorite DECOR was the laughter of friends!! So now each week I join the other two Warehouse Artchix in the warehouse to create fun and colorful WHIMSIES together!! I LOVE this time with these 2 free, fabulous spirits!
  • Sandra Feazel
My name is Sandra Feazel and I am one third of The Warehouse Artchix! I am Mother to the two incredible children God has blessed me with. A daughter in college and a son in high school. I am an interior designer by day and an artist every chance I get. My back ground is in fine art and I spent my college years traveling and studying in Europe, an incredible experience that I hope to return to someday! I am blessed to be able to create everyday either in my design work or in my Studio. Each week I join the other two Warehouse Artchix in the warehouse to create together...feeding of the creative energy of some fabulous, fun and funky females that I so thankfully call dear friends! We hope you enjoy our art, mainstream it is not, it is just for fun and meant to make your heart soar!!!

Paintings_

January 11, 2008

Here's more ........comments welcome!!~~~

It seems from the emails and comments that I should unveil the rest of the paintings....so here goes: The first one is complete, it has lots of layers and vivid colors.

2008art_011 Layered a quote on top of an already heavily layered background, then added the face, then added the birds, then the paper retro patterns that make up the peacock feathers.  Not real sure how I feel about this one, but it is all about playing with color and technique so that part I adore!

Love the combo of colors, aqua, turquoise, pinks, greens.  Very soothing colors!  The flowers in the background and right next to the face are tissue paper shapes that I collaged on and then painted over.

2008art_015

The next one is still in the process of being completed, so remember that as you view it... I just wanted to try a more simplified image.  The colors are similar to the first painting, but a little softer.

2008art_001 Lots of pattern on the left side background, will add pattern to the right side next.  There is a polka dot piece of paper just laying against the beret...not sure about that choice yet, it may get collaged into the hat.

2008art_003 softer eyes..layers of color washes make up the flesh tones of the face.

2008art_008 I love the look of the faces in several other artist work..like Misty Mawn, Lindsey Brakeen, Danita, Kelly Rae and DJ Petit...they each have their own style.  Their work is layered and ethereal, I love to look at those faces...so thought I would try my hand at faces.  When I was a little girl taking oil painting classes, I loved painting faces, even said I wanted to be a portrait artist.  I painted more of a realistic style then and it was as if the facial features were just waiting on the canvas for me to apply the tones. Almost like putting makeup on an invisible face.  I remember thinking that it was as if I could feel the bones that made up the structure of the faces...will have to dig out some of those old ones to look at! I have always love looking at the faces in art...from Picasso to Mary Cassatt.  Each one captures the emotion with a different style.

Maybe this weekend, I will try a few more approaches on the human face...Debra, I challenge you to paint a few faces too, I know how much you love painting faces.  To see some really fun faces, check out Debra's studio on the left sidebar to see her many faces of art!!  Well, I hate to admit it but I am off to take down the Christmas tree at my house....yes, it is still up and it has not even bothered me until today! post by Sandra

I even cleaned some in the house, but then had to just go out and sit in the sun, it was a beautiful day, crispy cool and sunny-the best. Be sure and check out the paintings that end tomorrow on ebay (see previous post), really painting lots due to the abundance of blank canvas, as of Friday there are now about 400 in my possesion, of course some of those go to Debra this week!! She is counting down the days until the baby is due...a little boy waiting to make his debut!!  Well, I am off to bed...one tired chix here!! -Sandra
