Introducing The Warehouse Art Chix:

  • Cari Shell
    My name is Cari Shell, I am the newest addition to the Warehouseartchix. I have just recently returned back to Texas from 5 years in New Mexico. (Hello to all my friends back there!!!-miss you bunches!) In New Mexico I was blessed to work with special needs children and fell in love, what a great experience to love and teach those children. I am the mother of three girls and grandmother to two (yes I am young to be a grandmother). My background is in Faux finishing, having previously worked for Sandra and her design Business. I have always had a love for art and am a self trained artist. Now I am back working for Sandra and am loving every minute of it! It brings back all of my inspiration and creativity to be around these chix! Keep watching for all our fun and exciting projects to come!
  • Debra Johnson
    I am a wife and a mother to an 11 year old daughter, and an infant son. * NO...I'm not young...I've just S P R E A D out my child bearing years!:) I am an ART NUT by day and a 'wanna be' mom and wife by night and weekends. I say 'wanna be' due the fact that I am always looking for ways to improve in this department and have been very fortunate by being blessed with some fantastic friends who are terrific mothers that inspire me forward. I thought I had it all together until this new 'cutie patootie' came into my life...and now ANYTHING GOES for getting life, family, and art all into a 24 hour period. 4:00 pm........is as good as 4:00 am ~ the lights are always ON at my house. My art background is in ....simply being poor most of my life:) * Hehe ~ One MAKES... what they can't buy!! *And.... you learn to see beauty in OTHER things.... OTHER than what's in the store:) I am very blessed to be able to stay home and create an income with my weird 'what-nots'. A few years ago I had a cottage art studio called The Little Yellow House. We held many art classes, and rented the house out for events. It was filled... floor to ceiling.... with bizarre and wonderful creations!! * My favorite DECOR was the laughter of friends!! So now each week I join the other two Warehouse Artchix in the warehouse to create fun and colorful WHIMSIES together!! I LOVE this time with these 2 free, fabulous spirits!

I am an interior designer by day and an artist every chance I get. My back ground is in fine art and I spent my college years traveling and studying in Europe, an incredible experience that I hope to return to someday! I am blessed to be able to create everyday either in my design work or in my Studio. Each week I join the other two Warehouse Artchix in the warehouse to create together...feeding of the creative energy of some fabulous, fun and funky females that I so thankfully call dear friends! We hope you enjoy our art, mainstream it is not, it is just for fun and meant to make your heart soar!!!

~~HANDMADE GIFTS are THE BEST!~~

How many of you were fortunate enough to receive handmade gifts for Christmas??? Well, I received some really special gifts this year! Gift that were filled with love and creativity!! Just wanted to share some of those with you !  Kecia from Lemoncholy's sent me some of her original art work all the way from New Jersey.  I had admired one of her bottle cap mixed media pieces earlier in the year, so she made me my very own:

She started with a  vintage framed picture of a man praying (those who know me, know I need to and do pray often!!! very often!!! ) and added a mix of bottle caps in which she placed various art images (luv,luv the bird one) and then she attached a glass coaster and tiny coins and keys!  There are lines of script around the edge, that tell a story!  How cool is that??? And then....she also sent me a absolutely beautiful handmade pendant on a chain:

I love wearing this, the back side is just as cool...as it has the image of a little bird (I luv birds!!!) the little dangling tag reads: Trust in your Dreams, and on the bird side it says: Be Free.  Thank you Kecia, I love these and will treasure them forever!! She is so talented!!!

Kecia_gift_018 I have a few more handmade goodies to show, but will wait until tomorrow.  I am off to put the finishing touches on a new painting that I have been working on...will show that soon too!!  If you are just now discovering our blog....Warehouseartchix is made up of a group of friends that share the gift of being artist....and that's not all we share.  Each Friday night you can find us gathered for fun and fellowship as we create together.  It could be a joint project, a cool idea or technique we have been waiting to try out, or just a time of working on our own projects as we share ideas and inspiration!!!  So come back and see us and share in the adventures of Sandra ( designer/artist), Debra (creative artist and new mom to Jack her darling infant son!!), Cari (just returned from 5 yrs in New Mexico, design assistant/artist) and Nancy (who is currently taking a break due to having four teens in her house, three boys which make up the triplets and a daughter a year younger....can you just imagine all the hormones in that house!!! hoping she will survive these teen times and rejoin when they all have their drivers license!!!).  Oh and before I forget....we will celebrate our 100th blog this week with a giveaway or two!!!!  So come back soon- post by Sandra

~~~Wonderful Weekend in Waco, Texas!!~~~
Bloom_and_bee_swanky_treasures_001 WOW-did I find the treasures in Waco this weekend!  Early Saturday morning I emptied out the van (at least part of it!)and headed out to pick up "Nana", my mom Ann, to head out to Waco to visit my daughter and her new apartment.  One of the first questions my mom asked was "are we going to have time to stop at our favorite shop on the way?" That shop is Bloom and Bee Swanky, located in Elm Mott (they are in the process of moving into Waco right now as you read this)...we discovered this fun little shop on our first trip when we visited my daughter last year on Parents Weekend at the campus.  The shop is owned by Amy and she is a doll, she has that building filled to the brim with lovelies, both hers and other dealers...and her displays are always lots of fun too!  Her prices are fair and I can spend hours just browsing among it all, making my pile at the counter as I go!  If ever in Waco, you should make it a point to visit Amy at her new location which she promises to be wonderful!!   Here are some more pics of the treasures...seems that tones of cream were the order of the day!
Bloom_and_bee_swanky_treasures_00_2 It was great to catch visit (in person) and catch up with my mom, as lately we just have quick phone conversations as I drive to clients homes.  My daughter and her darling roomate were waiting for us, as we arrived a little later (o.k., yes, it was 2 hours later than we had planned) but I had to bathe the dog (Daisy, the rat terrier made her move to Waco on this trip...she is now an apartment pet).  We got to see all the new additions to the decor at the apt. and came with a box of treasures to add to the decor. Nancy had sent some goodies for Syd and I had gotten her the duvet cover that she had been drooling over...then some treats from Ikea and of course a box of brownie mix for the girls to bake!  Treats are not treats unless you add something sweet!!! Hey! That could be the title of artwork for me!!! The girls wanted to visit Bloom and Bee Swanky too, so we loaded up and headed for Elm Mott.  I guess Syd forgot what die hard vintage shoppers my mom and I are!! She was finished shopping way before we were....my mom, once tired, sat in a chair and shopped from there with a little help from Sydney.  We loaded up the van with all kinds of treasures and then took the girls to lunch, Syd's request was steak, so we obliged and had a delicious late lunch. Then we headed back to the apt. to check on Daisy dog and drop off Robin who was joining roomate Margaret to go to the football game.  Daisy was a hit with Margaret who was having doubts about the dog thing....who could not adore that dog filled with personality. It will be so wonderful for Daisy to be the center of attention of all those girls....she was not adapting well to our new addition of Vegas (mixed breed pup we adopted), in fact she had gotten into a fight with my Great Dane and of course lost, that only cost about $700.00 in vet bills and 48 stitches around poor Daisy's neck.  My Dane is so gentle, but when Daisy went for her neck, she just bit back and one bite was all it took to send Daisy running and me driving to the vet!!  Well, enough of my dog stories and more pics of treasures: Bloom_and_bee_swanky_treasures_00_4
