`*~*`ARt DoLL ROunD RobIN`*~*` ReSuLTs!

My art doll has returned home!! She has traveled from city to city and been embellished by many creative hands and now she is complete! She started as an old metal ceiling tin "box" with a face on a wooden flower...boy has she changed!! Along the way she got some wooden feet to stand on and an actual stand to hold her up! and some silver glittered leaves/wings added to the sides!  Then she had the words create added as a belt, from which all sorts or "charming" goodies dangle...a clock face (to help me with time management I am sure!) and a cross to represent her growing faith, then tiny silver hearts (note she has two hearts! what a good thing...one to keep and one to give away some day!!) and then she has a stylish purse made out of a clock part! Then she has a glittered large letter "S" on her skirt and on her hat  ( she is "S"andra from head to toe!!)   She has lots of handpainted embellishments ..her swanky stripes on her legs, a rose on her toe, more roses on her right side and a handpainted hat that I am sure is the envy of every art doll out there!

She also has a golden crown and a golden halo circle around her glowing face!  Then she has attitude for sure with those long lacey arms and bell bead sleeves!  And since she is a southern lady, she has her lace hankie in her hand to dab at the sweat that this Texas heat brings!! (woops, forgot, ladies don't sweat, they perspire!)

She can't help but make you smile! she sparkles with her rhinestones on her flower framed face and her fancy hat!  She even sparkles from behind as her bottle cap stand is glittered in silver!

How lucky am I that Kecia, Nancy, Cari and Debra all took such good care of her and fixed her up with all she needed to be the most fab art doll I have ever seen! Thanks gals for all you added to her...I LOVE IT!!!

Saturday Mornings are the best! plus our first blog giveaway!!!

Ahhhhh...there is nothing like Saturday Mornings! sleeping late, hot coffee, catching up on emails and blogs...can't help but love this!! As I sit here in front of the computer late into the morning, sipping hot coffee sprinkled with cinnamon and listening to my new Joss Stone CD, I am wondering what could be better than this.  If I knew how to add music to this blog...I would let you hear this CD, then you would be moving right along with me. Just like in art, I like many styles of music. This weeks arrivals were a mix of soul, jazz and vintage country (brings back great memories of my dad!).  Nothing like good music to lift our souls up and get us going!  This has been a great week filled with lots of wonderful conversation with friends and fellow artist...so good that we can encourage and lift each other up. Art is filled with fellowship, that is just one of the side benefits to it, but probably one of the best ones.  To be able to talk about art and what it means to be true to your own style, be inspired by other artist but not copy others work.  Every artist is inspired by other art, but it is the true artist that can take that inspiration to the next level and make it their own.  Many of you know first hand the way it feels to see your work copied, how do you address that ? does the person really not get that they should not flat out copy it?  My own personal opinion is that the world is large enough for us all to be artist, but the joy of art is self expression to me, taking materials and experimenting with different results and seeing where that leads me. I think our art is a mirror of our hearts, layered with emotion, giving off "vibes" of this...if I am filled with Joy and start a painting, the colors are joyful, the movement is happy and bold. I am hoping that the viewer can capture this feeling when they view the work. It is my way of trying to share a piece of my heart with you the viewer. I believe that art is very personal. Some artist create out of pain, confusion, to find healing, to make them happy, to move them to a new level. Art is considered as an ever evolving process for some of us. What is art to you? I've officially gotten PAINT on my last pair of jammies that were 'paint-free'!! I wear an apron when I paint...but it never fails that I place a canvas behind me on the table, forget I did that...  stand up....and walk past it with my rear ~ receiving a huge swipe of color across both cheeks:)  LOVELY. At this point, I have multiple layers of colors in a straight line across my tushy on most jammies. * Note this doesn't ONLY happen to jammies...I've ruined quite a few pairs of jeans this way too!

Perhaps I need an apron for my backside??  I may move to wearing A LAB COAT! ~ ?

*Or..I could show you the working conditions of my studio at the moment ~ which may explain A LOT:)

Remember all those canvases that were on the floor the other day?...they are slowly transitioning.....

I sit somewhere in the middle of those.... and can barely EEEKKK my pregnant tummy through the maze of canvases and brushes. It's pitiful. My...my ...what a mess!

Things have begun to PILE up on the tables....paints, ribbons, egg cartons filled with random treasures:) So, after this batch of work I need to just CLEAR IT ALL OUT:)

But then again...there is something inspiring to me about having it all AT HAND when I sit down to create - maybe if I can stay seated ( hehe!)....I'll save my backside:)

Fall is finally here and see what adorable things are arriving in the mail!

OH, THE SEASONS ARE CHANGING,THE LANDSCAPE IS BEING REPAINTED WITH WARMER COLORS AND THE LEAVES ARE BEGINNING TO FALL!  I love this time of year when the air starts to cool and has that crisp feel to it. I love the colors of the leaves, the way it makes me want to bring those colors into my home. I think it is God's way of easing us into Winter, ever so gently!

     Many of you may have noticed the little picture in the side bar of the blog that is titled SWAP.  Just what is a SWAP, you may ask??? A SWAP, is hosted by an artist and is a way of exchanging works of art, ideas and techniques.  It is a challenge to "play outside the box, color outside the lines". It is an invitation to to share.  I just recently signed up to participate in a "paper dress swap" with Heather at www.jeweledelegance.typepad.com , the rules were to make two paper dresses, one with a fall theme and one with any theme...artist choice.  They were to be small enough to mail in a 6 x 9 padded envelope. Of course, I had to mail mine in  a bigger envelope, because by the time you wrap them in tisssue and tie them with ribbon and add some treats to that...6 x 9 just did not do the trick! The deadline for mailing them to your swap partner is Oct. 6. Well, my swap partner was Heather herself and she sent a very special package this week!! It contained three (yes, three...she is a generous soul!) of the most adorable, sweet tiny paper dresses you have ever seen!  What a fun thing to get in the mail!  I have them hanging on my bulletin board, the perfect embellishment for that space!!  Here are some pics of the cuties:

Are these not just adorable! The fall one has a spider web skirt and a glittered black top and the tiny details on the other two are so fab. Now this is something that  my creative brain would never have thought of ...but by looking and reading other artist sites, I have discovered wonderful new projects.  You can view the entire fashion show of dresses that were in the SWAP by just clicking on the icon button of the dress swap in our side bar.  One of the artist even hosted a ball so artist could show off their finery and celebrate Fall!  I am telling you that the world is sooooo full of fantastically creative people!

Finally...A NAME!

I AM....... 'feathers, rhinestones, colorful, gaudy, fru-fru, bangeled, beaded, out-there, bizzarr-ooo....'

MY DEAR HUSBAND IS......'Normal, basic, solid, plain, unfettered, regular, simple, informal, thorough..'

We're QUITE different. ( & I love that)

He orders VANILLA at Baskin Robbins (?? ~ who does that?)

I try and see how many flavors I can get on one cone......

So see ....naming our unborn child ~~~~~ Difficult.

This Morning, with great joy I make this announcement!

It's a boy...*probably the only son my husband will have..so I had to give a bit more SWAY to my better half.... and let him go with something he felt was a SOLID...manly name:) His name is Randall, so that part was easy.  I know you're thinking "Gee, they had 2 of the three parts then....how hard was that...what's wrong with you people?  But.....let me assure you.....it was methodically thought out:) Because my husband would do it no other way - *of course!!

So glad to have a name to the arms and legs moving around in there!:) Debra

How did the end of the month get here??

Good Morning!

I've just washed the last speck of gesso off of me....and I'm thrilled! I've been applying gesso to my canvases for what feels like hours - both today and yesturday!! (* I hate this part) This is the first step in making 'chunky' canvases that I sell in some boutiques around town. It's the end of the month, so I'm making a mad dash to the finish line to make good on my finances:) Been there? I often LIVE there because I'm a very good procrastinator:)

Here is a picture of what happens when I run out of room in my studio:) My foyer floor becomes a mosaic pattern of canvases. Not very fun for the family to live around.....

I need more space:) Sandra and I have been keeping our eyes out for a good WAREHOUSE space that we could share with some other artists - we've looked at few spaces ...and we think we stumbled on something fabulous last week. (Yea!!) * Now we're just praying about REALLY doing it, and where the $$ would come from to start the endeavour. It's all we can do to keep our minds on our work and not DREAM about every little inch of the remake to the space:)

Hehe!! I also threw in a few extra canvases so that I could do a little Christmas shopping this weekend at the fabulous 'once-a-month" flea Market in Canton, Texas.(* THAT is my inspiration!)

Now...if I can just BUCKLE DOWN and paint all these by Friday...I'll be in great shape. This procrastination thing worked a lot better for me when I wasn't pregnant!! This small octopus inside  of me has a definite opinion about how long I can sit in one spot ~ making it very difficult to just knock it all out in one good sitting. I'll have to paint, rest, paint, rest, etc.....so I might as well not even get out of my jammies:) Maybe....THAT does sound like a good week eh?

ArT DoLL UpdaTE....ROunD RoBiN.....

Look who landed on my desk this morning!!~~~~it's Deb's art doll and she is waiting to be packed up and shipped to Kecia...on her very way today, but first she must show you her new fashion updates...last time you saw her she was sporting the salt shaker hat and the clothes pin arms, now she has a little metal floral embellsihment on that hat and a lovely velvety green vine that is trailing ....then Momma's got a new pair of shoes! and these are some kinda shoes! purple glitter and turquise maribou at the top and those are worn over her striped leggings and then under an electric purple silk skirt that has beaded trim and lime green rosette buttons!  and in case you did not notice, she has a pregnant "momma" belly that is just like the one that Deb is sporting in real life. ***note for Deb: this is just a fluff of polyfill and can be removed when you want...sorry no mini art doll under there!!hehehehe!!!*** Then the skirt is toped off with a lovely sample of the velvet ribbons from www.flightsoffancyboutique.com . 

And off she goes...she will be traveling with her art doll buddie...

Nancy's doll is making the trip too! (have I ever told you how artist can be real procrastinators??? Well this one/Sandra can be for sure), but all has turned out well as they can travel together and be twice the fun for our friend Kecia..  www.lemoncholys.blogspot.com !

Another Friday night at the warehouse-"sit and say!"

The chix are at it again! We gathered tonight at the warehouse for our usual dose of creativity. Debra set the challenge...bring a chair, your paint and your favorite quote.  Cari, Sandra and Debra showed up with cute chairs and began the project...Cari's was  pink and black and spectacular from the start:

She is thinking the seat would be fab covered in black and white zebra stripe or black and white check...can't wait to see the end results here! 

Debra's chair required a colorful base-coat before being embellished:

 

Sandra's chair was one of a set...a very old his and hers chair. She began with a layer of collaged vintage sheet music and pretty papers, and then handpainted scroll work and a little window of chalk board paint so the title of the person sitting could be changed. 

Her chair was already base coated in black and recently reupholstered...so she went with a black, cream and red color scheme.

The back has a New Orleans feel, with a man playing a sax and harlequin paper.

A little scalloped paper and some painted stripes in red and cream...just waiting to be antiqued with a layer of glaze.

Stay tuned to next weeks results for the "sit and say" projects!  Can't wait to see the end results. All Belly.....

I won't show you this often (if ever again).....

I was feeling particularly FAT the other night and had hubby snap a picture of the ever expanding belly:) I've reached that point in my pregnancy where the shirts just hang out over the stomach - not even bothering to cling to your ROUND shape anymore - like a complete 'GIVE-UP'. So strange.....

I look in the mirror and it's like staring at an alien figure. Round, Round and more Round......

7months down - just 2 to go...and wouldn't it be nice if he came a little early? :) Debra

hOPE your day is filled with laughter, love, happiness and of course lots of cake (or cupcakes) to celebrate YOU!!

Just wanted to let you know that I am not a very timely person (as all my friends can attest to!!), but my heart is in the right place....I am mailing out your B-day package today (on your Birthday!) in hope that it will arrive just in time to continue the celebration into the weekend!!!  Soooo watch for the postman to bring a special delivery.....and since it is coming a little late....you can have a little sneak peek, yes, only one. ...the warehouseartchix wish you the Happiest Birthday ever.  We will eat pink cupcakes in honor of you this
Friday as we create at the warehouse....may even wear our party hats to!!!

Off to the post office and off to work...Have a HAPPY> HAPPY> HAPPY DAY!!!! visualize confetti falling all around, you know the glittery kind and balloons sailing in the air and paper hats and those silly wonderful horns that uncurl when you blow on them, now see the yummy cake with butter cream frosting roses and pretty little candles all lit....now get ready....make a wish! and blow out those candles....make believe you can hear us all singing Happy Birthday to you and then clapping and laughing ....and of course eating cake!!! Now go celebrate!!!!
