And we had a Marvelllllllllllllllous day!

Wednesday was a real treat! We were joined in Grapevine by our dear friend Cindy Mayfield and her husband Stewart!  Cindy is such an inspiring person, she has a fabulous blog, www.yappingcatstudio.typepad.com, is an incredible artist ( her lettering is to die for!....not to mention her birdsnests!) and she is cofounder of the one and only Texas paper arts retreat...PAPER COWGIRL!  Cindy lives in the quaint little town of Waxahachie and spends her days between creating and working at the Dove's Nest on the square. When you enter the Dove's Nest, all the fabulous displays in the store have had the creative hand of Cindy in them!!  The combination of Cindy B. the owner and entrepeneur and the creative hand of Cindy M., create a boutique store that will entertain you for hours!  And the food there is to die for, I have never had anything there that was not just the most delish!!  So to have Cindy M. join us for an afternoon in Grapevine was just the best!  Cindy and Stewart had not seen our new warehouse so that was the first stop,to tour the warehouse and get a feel for what we are doing there, then we headed on down to main st. to have lunch at Farina's...

Here we are at the restaurant, Cindy, Gigi and I ....thanks Stewart for taking our pic!  Stewart was not the picture kinda guy, but wish he were so you could see what a cute couple he and Cindy make!  They are both so personable and fun!  We even suggested that Stewart could start his own blog, called Mr. Yapping!  He was not going for that though, but he should, he could tell the behind the scenes story of being married to an artist and all her adventures....and I bet he could entertain the art blog husbands for hours on end!!! Now Stewart, you really should consider this...but either way you will be Mr. Yapping to me from now on!!!  We dined together on fabulous pizzas, mine had chicken, artichoke hearts, feta cheese, spinach and basil pesto, Cindy's had black olives and Italian pepperonis, Gigi had the Southwest Chicken Salad and Stewart sampled the muffaleta....it was a real toss up as to who's lunch was the best.  And at the end, we all shared a piece of Chocolate Kahlua Cake served ala mode!!! Now that was the best and finished off the perfect meal!  While we ate, we talked about the future plans of Paper Cowgirl ( the next one will be coming around May or June of 2010!!!) , recapped the last event and caught up on Mrs. T's progress (read down the blog to find out about Tina and continue to pray for her and her progress in her recovery from cancer!!!!!-we love you Tina and wish you could have joined us...and you will very soon my friend!!!!) After lunch we strolled down main st. and perused a few shops...where we saw the "cutest" merchandise! Gigi teased me because I said everything was so "cute"....everytime someone would show me something I would instantly say it was "so cute!", we decided I needed a new word....cute is an awful little word for an almost 6 ft tall woman to say over and over...not to mention that it is not too sophisticated!  So from now on , I will try to think of a better description...maybe "how interesting, or that's incredible"...we shall see where that goes.  But back to the day ...we said our goodbyes to Stewart and Cindy as they traveled on down main st to shop some more and we headed back to the warehouse to unload new goodies for our next sale!  It was a marvelous afternoon spent in good company!!! Thanks Cindy and Stewart for coming to visit! 
 

More Paper Cowgirl Goodness!!!

Just had to share more pictures of the Paper Cowgirl event, hoping typepad will endure while I download the pics!  Here is the entire class after the Cupcake Whimsy class, everyones project turned out so well, if I do say so myself!!  It was a treat to teach!!

Here is Cindy (www.cindygilstrap.typepad.com/junqueart) we had met the weekend before when she came to the Warehouse Artchix sale, the best part of the blog world is meeting people like Cindy and then getting to see and chat with them in person!!! Cindy is precious!  and so is her crepe paper, go check out her blog and her etsy shop for some of that! 
  I enjoyed every minute of laughing and learning with these Cowgirls!  The next class was taught by Joanna (www.sweetfinds.typepad.com) it was a crown class, and the end result was a classroom full of women wearing the most gorgeous crowns that they created! Think I better post this  one then I will add pics of Joanna's class!

Paper Cowgirl Event was Incredible!

This past Saturday I had the most incredible day!  It was the Paper Cowgirl Art Retreat in Waxahachie, Texas!  A fun filled day that was appropriately titled CAMP WHIMSY!  The picture above is of the centerpiece on the classroom tables, the colors for the event were pink and aqua...my personal favs! I may have to do the event in several posts, seems typepad will only let me load about three pics before it goes on the blink.  This is my fourth attempt to post on the event!  If you have not attended this event, it is well worth the drive, Cindy and Tina gather a great group of gals and the day is jamm packed with creative goodness.  I was fortunate to be asked to teach at this one. There were three classes and at the end of each class, the ladies earned a "badge", kinda like girl scouts!  Cindy had treats that she and Joanna had created for each girl and they had a breakfast spread to start the day with these great little muffins and Joanna's homemade pumpkin bread, all that with a steamin cup of coffee and some great conversation with the other girls.....a great start to a great day!

Then it was on to the first class...Cupcake Whimsy!  Here is a sneak peek at the class kit, it had all the supplies needed, canvas, vintage paper, scrapbook paper, brushes, modge podge, even a little hot pink goodie bag filled with chocolate biscotti to savour with some coffee!

 Some of the ladies I knew from the last Paper Cowgirl, some were first time attendees, but all were so fun to spend the day with!  We laughed, we created, we shared helpful tips....and we had a great time just makin art!

It's Paper Cowgirl Friday!!!

Then go to www.papercowgirl.blogspot.com and check it out!!!  I am excited to be teaching one of the classes this Fall, let me introduce myself and tell a little about my class....

My name is Sandra Feazel, I am by day an interior designer, and my passion and real calling is in art!  I began my love affair with art as a child and it has only grown stronger through  the years. I studied fine art in college and traveled abroad...but soon returned to Texas to make it my home for the past 46 years. My experience has been that Texas artist are big and bold, always trying something new, always experimenting and pushing it to the next level....so to be a part of that would of course mean to be a PAPER COWGIRL!!  I had the pleasure of attending the Spring retreat and loved every minute of it!!!  So when Cindy and Tina asked if I would teach this fall, I was so excited, and to top it off, it is in my favorite medium...paint!  Not just paint, but a combination of paint, collage and then the icing on the cake...beeswax finish!!!  Painting is my all time favorite thing to do, painterly very much describes my work even when I am working in another medium...for this class, we will do small canvas with a sweet treat as our subject:

An adorable cupcake on a stand.  We will layer on the background, using collage techniques and painting, then we will paint on some final details....then, we will explore the technique of beeswax. Beeswax gives artwork a very vintage patina, mellows the colors and softens the feel.  I think you will enjoy the combination of processes and I have tried to make it a project that anyone can do....if your new to painting, then the class will be one where you can just follow the instruction, but if you are a more advanced artist, then I think the class will be something you can add your own flair to and hopefully learn some new! 

Make sure and check out the other two classes being offered! I think the whole day will be an incredible adventure with a yummy lunch and time to visit with other artist!  And just to experience the flair and flavor that Cindy and Tina put on an art retreat will make you yell "YEEHAW"!!!!

PAPER COWGIRL RETREAT- a rootin' tootin' good time!

   The warehouse girls have had a new adventure!  We just spent the last three days in Waxahachie at the Paper Cowgirl, a fabulous art retreat!   We met lots of wonderfully creative women , took some great classes and learned so much!  The art, the friends and the food were fabulous!!!  We started it all of with a meet and greet at The Doves Nest, where we got to shop after hours....

 Friday morning started with a soldering class taught by Tina Wright, where we (Sandra and Gigi) learned how to make a soldered house filled with a handmade collage...I think I mastered the art of soldering based on Tina's saying ..."Flux is our friend", then after the class, we had a delicious lunch. Gigi and I snuck out to do a little  junkin, found a garage sale and a little resale shop, where we found some vintage treasures.  The second class was Cindy's  Artful Journaling , where we started with a vintgage book and learned to layer images, make packing tape transfers, use  napkins for images and to do hand lettering to create wonderful journal pages.  A day filled with fun!  Stay tuned for more ...day two was another fun filled day!
